CINEMATIC WEDDING VIDEO | HUNTER VALLEY | NEWCASTLE | DESTINATION
On a recent wedding I was filming I asked myself...
"What's the true centerpiece of the Wedding Reception? .... other than the Bride?"
Is it the flowers, the table cards, the candles, the guests, the chair sashes, the fairy light backdrop perhaps?
"Nope, it's none of them" I said.
IT'S THE CAKE!!!
I bring this up simply because if you don't consider cake placement, it often ends up in a dark corner, or against a cluttered wall of the venue, near the fire extinguisher or worse. By taking just a little thought and effort and talking with your venue about this simple consideration, the added touch truly can make a difference. No matter how grand or how small your wedding cake is.
Here are some good reasons why it's important to consider your cake placement.
1. Having your cake in a central position, with access all round, allows me to get creative with shot options. For instance, I use the cake in the foreground of many candid shots and during the speeches when possible. And I also love to get a 360 of the cake. The middle of the dancefloor is usually the perfect spot!
2. Guests ALWAYS crowd around the cake when they enter the reception, and a lot of them take photographs of each other standing in front of the cake! Crazy it might seem but it's true. I see it all the time. Let your guests see it all and smell it all.
3. When it comes time to cut the cake, everyone has plenty of room to take that shot. For me, I'd prefer if everyone was taking a shot while I was taking THE shot ( if you know what I mean ) it just looks better and feels better when your guests are included in the event, not asked to step aside while the pro's take the shot.
